LIFE VinoShield presentation conference at Enoforum 2025
Verona, Italy | May 21, 2025
As climate change intensifies, the European wine industry faces unprecedented challenges. At the recent Enoforum Conference, the LIFE VINOSHIELD project presented its cutting-edge approach to safeguarding the future of viticulture.

During her presentation, Ekaterina Kleshcheva (Vinidea) highlighted the urgent need for sustainable, effective protection. This is where LIFE VINOSHIELD steps in.
Innovative solutions: beyond just netting
The project introduces a range of warp-knitted multifunctional nets combined with smart fixation systems. Unlike traditional methods, this passive technology requires:
- Zero energy or chemicals
- No gas or water consumption
- Optimal air circulation to maintain vine health
With four specialized net types designed to counter specific hazards, the project offers “cross-protection”—meaning one solution can mitigate multiple climate risks simultaneously.
Key objectives of LIFE VINOSHIELD
The project is currently being tested and validated across 9 experimental sites in Italy, France, and Spain. Our goals are clear:
- Validate Performance: Proving the effectiveness of nets against frost, hail, and heat in real-world conditions.
- Enhance Ergonomics: Developing new handling systems to make net deployment easier for growers.
- Sustainability First: Establishing a circular business model that secures the full value chain, from material production to recycling.
- Environmental Impact: Reducing the need for chemical treatments and promoting a greener wine sector.
Looking Ahead
The presentation at Enoforum 2025 sparked significant interest among industry professionals and researchers. By combining technical innovation with socio-economic benefits, LIFE VINOSHIELD is not just protecting vines—it’s securing the heritage of European winemaking.
By 2032, we aim to protect over 16,500 hectares of vineyards, involving more than 2,750 growers in this climate adaptation journey.
